Have you tried our audiobooks?

For those who didn’t know, audiobooks are the perfect way to help the time pass more quickly on a long drive. On my drive home last weekend, I listened to Cloaked by Alex Flinn, performed by Alexander Cendese. The drive takes over 6 hours roundtrip, so this audiobook was the perfect length (6 hr., 46 min.). Usually by the time I reach my destination I’m itching to get out of the car, but Cendese’s vocal performance of the various characters had me captivated for the entire drive. With a cursed prince/frog, enchanted talking swans, witches, and a hot princess, this isn’t your ordinary fairy tale. Add in a teenage shoe repair guy with a magic cloak as a hero, and the result is an engaging tale that will keep you entertained until the very last moment. Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself and get CLOAKED!

(Not a fan of audiobooks? We have Cloaked in print as well! )

P.S., The audiobooks have moved! You can find them now on the 2nd floor by the Educational DVDs.

Audiobooks: Stand-up Comedy & Comedians

Maybe a year ago, while handling some Eddie Izzard CD donations, I realized our audiobook collection lacked much stand-up comedy.

No one had been asking for comedy ... but then again, people are always surprised to learn that we welcome requests.

The Enduring Culture of Celebrity

Glen David Gold, author of Carter Beats the Devil, has published a new novel, Sunnyside--available now as an audiobook.

The publisher's description reads as follows:

[O]n a winter day in 1916 ... Charlie Chaplin is spotted in more than eight hundred places simultaneously, an extraordinary delusion that forever binds the overlapping fortunes of three men: Leland Wheeler, son of the world's last (and worst) Wild West star, as he finds unexpected love on the battlefields of France; Hugo Black, drafted to fight under the towering General Edmund Ironside in America's doomed expedition against the Bolsheviks; and Chaplin himself, as he faces a tightening vice of complications--studio moguls, questions about his patriotism, his unchecked heart, and, most menacing of all, his mother.

The Onion's A.V. Club gives this book and its "mighty panorama" an A-. Library Journal calls it "another joyous comic novel."

Man Up: Katt Williams

Two items on steady under-the-radar circulation:

the CD and DVD editions of comedian Katt Williams' It's Pimpin' Pimpin'.

One reviewer at Amazon.com writes:

"I live in a building in South Florida with a lot of old people. We laughed so hard and loud ... that one of my neighbors told the security guard to come tell us to be quiet."

Williams also appears in the films Norbit, First Sunday, and The Perfect Holiday.
