Another new title leaps onto my to-read list. Skippy Dies by Paul Murray should be a good, dark laugh. You don't have to take my word for it--lit review super-giant Entertainment Weekly gives it an A, and they really aren't too generous with those. The quick summary: Skippy dies early in the novel of doughnut overdose, and those left behind cope with the loss.
